Reviews
Visiting for a music gig in the cellar, not food, great sound system and lighting. Good choice of beers at the main bar. Pleasant service by the staff.
A fantastic pub in Islington. The Anchor is steeped in history.
In fact I was overcome by those who have trod the boards in the cellar music venue. All the punk greats, U2, The Police & then you realise how small it is.
Capacity is a strict 80 souls. I can't imagine being in with 250 others in the 70s it must have been madness (They played it. Not sure how they all got on the stage)
On my visit the sound was excellent.
The var service pretty good but the booze prices ridiculous. But hey its inner London!
The Angel tube is about 3/4 of a mile walk past many other decent venues in this vibrant part of North London.
A must visit place.
This pub is the place Joy Division (and lots of other famous british bands) played at a long time ago, and it happened we were passing by, no way we could miss it :-) Unfortunately it wasn't a live music evening so we only visited the ground floor, and it was a nice experience anyway. Lady at the bar was nice and friendly, beer was good, good experience overall.
I was performing on stage with my band Sun-Pinned Leaves so spent the evening in the downstairs venue. Staff are very helpful, professional and friendly. Drinks are reasonably priced for London. Great atmosphere, good cross section of people, locals, fans and tourists make for good mix.
Very nice music venue pub, we had shearing plates for our dinner which were very good, friendly and helpful staff,
Nice pub. Small basement live music venue, but good atmosphere and acoustics
Popped in to see James and the team.....
One of the best pints of Guinness I've had, matched only by the Camden Head(another local pub up the road in Angel).
Lovely atmosphere with ska, rock and reggae in our ears.
Food was lovely also.
We will be back.
Second time visiting for a music gig, and as lovely as I remembered it being. The staff are so kind and up for a chat, it's a lovely little pub and the downstairs space is so great, makes for an intimate gig. There's also a bar downstairs and the toilets are on the upper floor with what looks to be a theatre area. Definitely somewhere to go for a drink and a chat!
